Gerlinde Seitner is new Managing Director

The Vienna Film Fund has a new managing director. Gerlinde Seitner is taking over from Peter Zawrel and is in charge of the cinema and television funding of the Vienna Film Fund. Gerlinde Seitner, most recently deputy director of the Austrian Film Institute, had convinced the jury in a two-tier selection process earlier this year and will manage the Vienna Film Fund for the next four years.

BREATHING awarded best feature film at Zurich Film Festival

At the Zurich Film Festival, Karl Markovics' directorial debut BREATHING was awarded with a "Golden Eye" as best German-speaking film. The appreciation is associated with 20,000 francs and 60,000 francs prize money promoting Swiss cinema release. The jury praised the "poetic minimalism" of the film, which was "composed with a reliable sense of style" and convinced "with his great artistic maturity". Markovics will receive the prize this Saturday evening at the Zurich Opera House in person.
 
 

SINGING FOR LIFE wins Prix Italia

The documentary SINGING FOR LIFE. VOICES FROM THE TOWNSHIPS by Barbara Weissenbeck won the internationally renowned PRIX ITALIA 2011 in Turin's Palazzo Madama, the SPECIAL PRICE "program that effect social change". The film focuses three South African opera singers with impressive voices - voices that manage to pass borders. All three vocal miracles come from the townships of Cape Town.
